Thinking About You is the second track, and first song, off of Frank Ocean’s critically acclaimed Channel Orange. Ocean, a New Orleans native who relocated to Los Angeles in the aftermath of Katrina, worked for several years as a songwriter for wide range of artists, including Beyonce, Justin Bieber, and John Legend. Born Christopher Breaux, he really began to make a name as part of the Horrorcore-Rap collective Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All (best known for their shocking lyrics and zany antics). However, Ocean stood out for his smooth croon, thoughtful lyrics, and deeply embedded appreciation for the lyrical stylings of old soulsters like Stevie Wonder, Teddy Pendergrass, and Al Green.

The track gained considerable media attention after the singer confessed that it was written about his first love, a man whom Ocean met right after moving to Los Angeles at age 19. While the object of his affections didn’t reciprocate at the time, the complexities of unrequited love, particularly in the homophobic world of hip-hop, stayed with Ocean. Fans have been extremely supportive throughout all of this, and Channel Orange is a must-listen, and positively my favourite album of 2012 so far.

We’re huge fans of Frank Ocean here at Dead Curious, and urge you all to go buy the album if you haven’t yet.
