Genre: rock, post-hardcore

They Say Fall are a band from Gainsborough, North Lincolnshire (incidentally my hometown too, woo), formed in 2010 under the pseudonym Brayford, their name changed in late 2010 to They Say Fall, and with this ensued a change of genre and addition of another band member.

Now a five-piece, they are immensely popular in the local area and have risen to local fame – recently embarking on a successful 9-day tour and finishing in Escobar, Leeds.

Although I only saw this band (they were supported earlier by Fools To Favour and Letters From A Stranger) out of the three playing, their tight, thick sound, soaring vocals and mixed-up songs were perfect for the atmosphere – the crowd loved it.  Well-known songs such as ‘Nausea’ and ‘The Jaundice Theory’ were beautifully received and the most hardcore fans were singing every word. The halts and ascendances of the music was perfectly rehearsed with every member obviously fully aware of the musical situation – even after being given free shots of an undisclosed transparent, alcoholic beverage just before playing.

The band fully involved the co-operation of the fans and were happy to have them on stage and singing along (very passionately, I might add). Naming Dillinger Escape Plan as one of their key influences, the band definitely reminded me of them last night – the complex rhythms and thick sound fitted perfectly with that influence and totally worked with the atmosphere. The tight sound is obviously something that’s been well practiced and works so well for this band – they really pull off a great live performance.

Having seen them before, this is an improvement and a half (although they were never bad!) and I’d definitely recommend checking them out if you haven’t already. They’re currently represented by Detached Inc. and play mostly local gigs, but I’m sure they’re happy to travel up to Yorkshire (and beyond) if requested!
