Apparently, small things amuse small minds. I’m not so sure about that. I’d say it’s more about finding joy in the simple things – the love and laughter in those small and special moments that life provides. Like those yellow little creatures that love bananas. Minions. They make me smile. They make me laugh. They make me roll on the floor with tears in my eyes coz they’re so darn cute and hilarious.
I’ve loved minions ever since I saw the first Despicable Me, but the trailers for the second one (which I still haven’t seen, shame on me) escalated my love to new heights. I first saw the trailer with the four little creatures singing the banana song (and if anyone knows why in the world minions love bananas so much, please explain it to me!), then I stumbled upon @BestMinions on Twitter and my life was instantly complete, moved on to discover the minion-banana mini movie on youtube (a must watch!), and then McDonald’s introduced me to the minion figures that come with every Happy Meal.
And coz apparently I’m not the only crazy minion-obsessed fan out there, you can also buy them separately. There’s two in my kitchen, Dave Banana Babbler and Tim Giggle Grabber (yes, they come with names). Dave is a short minion with a giant banana in his hands who starts giggling whenever you try to move the banana away. Tim giggles when you shake him up and down and his arms open wide to grab (or hug, I’d say) whatever comes his way. It’s the cutest thing.
I don’t know what it is about minions that makes them so lovable. Maybe it’s their innocence. Their unassuming presence. I’m not sure. But I do know that their laughter makes any sorrow fade away (for a moment at least), and the creator of the minions is someone who should be cherished for as long as minions will last!
