frightened-rabbit

Frightened Rabbit return to the above ground world with the stars within a hare’s breath. “Pedestrian Verse” is the follow up to 2010’s “Winter of Mixed Drinks”, an album that set the bar of expectation to atmospheric heights, with “Swim until you can’t see land” becoming every UK indie fan’s anthem of the summer. But after a leisurely tour of the US and well needed break back home in Scotland, the band have again created a album that sets a new benchmark for the group, but more importantly, the UK indie music scene.

With characteristic melancholy lyrics fuelled with heartache, the five rabbits have paved out a path over the past ten years building to this album. They have created a die-hard fan base which spreads to the far reaches of UK and beyond. To show their appreciation to the fans and to prove their own personal dedication, they took on a tour of Scottish Highlands playing in Pubs and Social Clubs to say thanks to everyone supporting them through thick and thin over the years.

Pedestrian Verse shows the brilliance of this band of to its fullest, with every track adding a new element to the bands already substantial hit parade. With tracks “State Hospital” and “The Woodpile” already proving a independent success you would struggle with the vast majority of albums to have that continuing triumph track after track. But I honestly feel that any track on this album could stand up as the next single. “Holy” and “Nitrous Gas” bring a refreshing new sound to the album both choosing to use a almost “stereo” sound, giving that element of singularity and vulnerability to their music, which gives them a distinct prominence lacking from the current UK music scene.

It may only be early in the year but already I predict a big year for these Frabbits, so be sure to prick up your ears and prepare for the next big Indie band to charge.
