Mario Trimarchi, born in Sicily, has lived and worked in Milan since 1983. An architect of the “freehand”generation, he has always moved freely within the visual universe and considers drawing, photography, design and image as equal components with the same theoretical approach.Agirlinhongkongfell in love withLa Stanza dello Scirocco…

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN 10 WORDS?

Mario Trimarchi:I just need less words…black and white, reflexive, an indefatigable speaker, full of obsessions, a dreamer.

INTRODUCE YOURSELF BY SHOWING US 3 OF YOUR WORKS THAT BEST DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONALITY.

Mario Trimarchi:  La Stanza dello Scirocco, designed for Alessi. It is a range of items born out of the abstract and motionless atmosphere of a magic place: the room in largeSicilian country homes where one is forced toseek shelter from the sultriness while waiting for the sirocco wind to die down. It is a room without windows in which you can do nothing but ponder the wind that is undoing all sublunary things outside. The upshot is a collection of geometrically irregular items made up of small splinters of various sizes, interlaced in an unstable balance.

Intanto (Italian for ‘meanwhile’), again designed for Alessi, is a range ofglass vasessupportedby intertwined metal threads The design of these vases evokes this limbo: the tenuous existence of a flower once it has been eternally severed from its plant.

Lastly the manifesto dedicated to the 150 anniversary of Unification of Italy (1861-2011) which tellsthe weak strenght of Italy. Italy as an indelible graphic iconwhich even modyfied in its part, is still enough recognizable. A connection toour history, a bit troubled and a bit messy, told by the instability of free-hand drawing.
