Animal Collective have been releasing albums since 2000. a lot of albums. Merriweather Post Pavillion was released in 2009 and is considered their most accessible album – so recommendable if you want to start listening to the band! from Maryland, Ohio originally, they are a band renowned for their oddness – considering that this is their most “accessible” album, judge for yourselves.
Merriweather Post Pavillion is an interesting album – packed full of discords and slightly-off vocals (that’s also what I would describe as “accessible”, but hey), we can see the development into more popular culture from their earlier music. My Girls is the song you will recognise – with it’s strong beats, looped lyrics and recognisable synth repeats, it’s catchy and instantly recognisable. My Girls is the one you’ll be trying to hum for the rest of the day. other tracks such as Summertime Clothes are easy listening with tuneful vocals and steady beats.
in my personal opinion, I am not a massive fan of Animal Collective. My Girls is a hummable song and nice to listen to, but the discords and disjointed-ness of the music as a whole really puts me off. on top of that, the weirdly synthesised vocals are slightly off-putting and often the songs don’t really seem to go anywhere after the initial ideas have been established. well then. don’t let me put you off; I’d be glad to hear some other peoples’ opinions too.
