A band hailing from the USA as of 2007, and named after a tree in their native state of Ohio, Civilian is Wye Oak’s fourth album and so worth a listen.
The gentle vocals over the relaxed, catchy, syncopated music makes this seem really unique. We see the variety of influences over the music with the steady but light drum contrasted with the lead singer’s floaty vocals, compared to the twangy riffs of the guitar in other songs, and use of strangely synthesised sounds throughout.
Holy Holy is the song to listen out for, but my personal favourite is Dogs Eyes.
I really liked this album, in case you hadn’t guessed.
