Producer and drum-machine maestro Jamie Smith, known professionally as Jamie xx, rose to prominence as one of the wunderkind comprising 2010’s breakout band The xx. Smith was tasked with remixing Heron’s last release before his death, I’m New Here. Taking the famous musician and spoken word poet’s vocals and laying them over modern beats, the result was We’re New Here. A combination of dubstep influences, woozy piano and synths and the ever present MPC beats, it was critically acclaimed and brought both artists front and center into the collective conscious.
