The Way Back is one of those films where the cinematography, acting and story all come together to create a truly great experience. Directed by Peter Wier and starring Jim Sturgess, Colin Farrell, Saoirse Ronan, plus Dead Curious favourite Ed Harris as Mr. Smith, you just know there’s bound to be some great moments… Here are three of our favourite scenes:

We love the juxtaposition of Mr. Smith’s hardened cynicism and Janusz’s instinctive kindness.

The symbolism of the lake is what makes this a powerful scene. It restores the diminishing hope, which had been plaguing the group, and gives them the confidence to actually believe in the possibility of a successful escape.

After watching the group suffer through countless setbacks, and rooting for them to pull through, their eventual success is thoroughly uplifting, to say the least.
